Manna Food is an important ministry of First Presbyterian. Each month we give an average of 60 boxes of food to those unable to provide for themselves. Of these 60, about one-third of the food boxes are open donations, meaning that you as a church body are giving money to help purchase a box for someone who cannot afford it. Right now our reserve funds are low, and we are in need of people who would be willing to help financially. If you feel God tugging on your heart to help with this ministry, it is a wonderful way to help those in need.
Your donations do not go unnoticed. Last year we gave out a little over $30,000 of food through purchases or donations. We know that the lives of those receiving these groceries are touched by your act of kindness, and God’s love is revealed to them. We have received many calls from people whose lives have been blessed so that they can have food for their family.
If you are not familiar with Manna Food, here is a brief description of this ministry: For $29, you can order a food box designed to feed a family of four for a week. The food is not second-hand or out-of-date. It is good quality food from name brand and well-known suppliers, and would cost $50-$75 if purchased in your local grocery store. Manna Ministries, a non-profit organization located in Amarillo, orders and distributes this food in Amarillo and surrounding states. This food is allotted to local churches (such as First Presbyterian), outreach ministries and non-profit organizations, which then divide these items as food boxes per individual orders. Special food arrangements and volunteers help keep costs low.
There are no special qualifications and no limits on the number of food boxes you can purchase. You can purchase a food box for yourself, for a friend, for a group, for a family you know in need. This ministry is simply here to help with financial and nutritional needs. Help us by telling your families, friends, neighbors and co-workers about this opportunity.
If you would be interested in coming to help sort and box items for individuals, we would love to have your help. Look for Manna Food Pick Up dates in your bulletin and eChimes. It is usually the last Saturday of the month. We begin at 8:00 a.m. and finish before noon. For more information please contact Charlotte in the church office, 373.4242.
