GOSPEL Home / Worship Services / Gospel from on . 830 Service Jake Schroeder Vimeo Gospel 8:30 am Sunday Mornings Sanctuary WORSHIP SERVICES Reformed Traditional Contemporary Gospel OTHER INTERESTS Studies and Groups Worship Grow Connect Serve Come join us at 8:30 in our sanctuary as we kick off the morning with some upbeat gospel music. What is gospel music exactly? Gospel music is a genre of music that is upbeat, primarily led by piano, guitar, banjo, and other stringed instruments rather than an organ. In contrast to our Contemporary 1105 service that plays contemporary songs, gospel music includes older songs like “I’ll Fly Away,” “Nothing But The Blood,” “When We All Get To Heaven,” “Soon and Very Soon,” and “I Love To Tell The Story.” These are the types of songs that would have been sung during camp meetings or tent revivals during the first half of the twentieth century in West Texas. Our gospel service begins with our gospel band and ends with our beautiful organ. The order of the service is very similar to our Reformed traditional service at 11:00 a.m., but the music is primarily gospel at the beginning and is led by our wonderful gospel band. If you like to sing gospel music, we would love to have you in our “Y’all Come Sing Choir” that shows up at 8:00 to rehearse and leads worship with the gospel praise band at 8:30. If you like gospel music this is the service for you. Please invite a friend as we worship God singing some old time gospel songs.

REFORMED TRADITIONAL Home / Worship Services / Reformed Tradtional from on . 11 Service Jake Schroeder Vimeo Reformed Traditional 11:00 am Sunday Mornings Sanctuary What is Reformed worship exactly? Well, in the Protestant Reformation theologians like Martin Luther and John Calvin made it clear that we are saved by GRACE alone, through FAITH in CHRIST alone. SCRIPTURE alone is our authority in faith and life as we seek to give all GLORY to God alone. With this new found emphasis on SCRIPTURE, worship in the Reformed Tradition is focused on the triune God and is guided by SCRIPTURE, saturated with SCRIPTURE, and centered around the reading and preaching of SCRIPTURE. For we believe what the Apostle Paul writes about Scripture in 2 Timothy 3:16-17. “16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” We believe that the Lord uses the faithful reading and preaching of Scripture to transform us and equip us to do the work of God’s Kingdom here on earth. In Traditional Reformed Worship we want to pray the word, sing the word, hear the word, and speak the word. For we believe that it is through the Scriptures of both the Old and New Testaments that we learn more of who God is, and we discover who God is calling us to be. If you want to encounter God through a service of worship that is saturated in Scripture, then I would encourage you to join us for Traditional Reformed Worship in our beautiful sanctuary at 11:00 a.m.. Come join us as we gather around the word of God and are led in singing traditional hymns to God led by our beautiful organ and our sanctuary choir. Our newly renovated organ is actually the largest and most dynamic organ from Fort Worth to Los Angeles and has been profiled in People often call it Traditional Worship, but it’s not just “traditional”. It is REFORMED WORSHIP, and that makes all the difference. different news articles WORSHIP SERVICES Reformed Traditional Contemporary Gospel OTHER INTERESTS Studies and Groups Worship Grow Connect Serve

Norman is also FPC's Director of Music/Organist. The publicly visible part of the project - the console has been in the sanctuary for some time now, and it is a beauty! It has many custom features such as: Walnut/Maple drawknobs (stops) with inlaid name plates, matching walnut sharps (normally black plastic keys), and historic E.M. Skinner architectural designs along with architectural panels to match and enhance the beauty of our 1928 Gothic sanctuary. Although the console is very traditional in its appearance, it has many hidden high- tech functions that will be unique to this instrument such as audio plug-in and MIDI record/playback of any piece of music or full concert allowing automation of music when necessary. MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is the music industry standard for keyboard instruments, some modern stringed instruments, and drums, etc. The use of MIDI means that synthesizers can be played from this new console and the organ can also be played from a remote keyboard instrument. The console is merely the control center of the instrument (much like the captain controls the jumbo jet from the plane's cockpit.) The sounds all come from the parts of the instrument that are not visible from the sanctuary pews - the pipe chambers (rooms where the pipes reside). There are thousands of wiring connections in the chambers and Norman has also repaired valves that had been water damaged. The chambers not only contain pipes, but they also feature five percussion instruments: a zimbelstern two different types of harps and two sets of chimes. When the instrument is finished it will be the largest church organ in a line between Fort Worth and the California border with 4 manuals (keyboards), 158 drawknobs, 135 speaking stops (sounds) and approximately 4000 pipes in four chambers around the sanctuary. The frequency range of an organ such as this is 16 Hz (cycles per second) to frequencies well beyond the human range of hearing. The maximum range of human hearing is approximately 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. To see the Final Stop List, . click here Did You Know... “It is estimated that there are approximately 120,000 pipe organs in the world.” “The new pipe organ at First Pres will be the largest one between Ft Worth and Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Houston!” “There are only about 50 pipe organs in the world that are larger than the new one at First Pres!” “Bigger is definitely NOT always better, but an instrument of this size AND quality will compare favorably to the best instruments in the world.”
