  • What is ECO?
First Pres recently joined ECO, a Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians whose mission is to build flourishing churches that make disciples of Jesus Christ. ECO is a Presbyterian denomination that was founded in 2010. By 2018, ECO churches seek to baptize more than they bury. We will pursue this goal by focusing on four priorities: Life up the centrality of the gospel Grow with an emerging generation of leaders Prioritize a wave of church innovation Create an atmosphere of relational accountability ECO
  • What are your basic Presbyterian beliefs?
The Trinity: God is one and exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ - God took human form in the person of Jesus Christ. He was fully God and fully human. Jesus Christ: God took human form in the person of Jesus Christ. He was fully God and fully human. Justification by Faith: A person by faith in Jesus Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross receives grace – the forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life. Scripture: The Bible is God’s written Word to humankind – the “infallible rule of faith and practice.” Sovereignty: Our Living Heavenly Father is ultimately in control of world events and individual lives. He works all things out in accordance with His will. Sacraments: We celebrate two sacraments: baptism and holy communion. Worship: We as Christians strive to praise and please God and enjoy an intimate relationship with Him.
  • What kind of church is First Pres?
We are a 'Confessional' church and proud members of ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians and the Fellowship of Presbyterians. We have adopted 13 creeds and confessions of the church, including the Apostles' Creed, that we believe accurately state what the Scripture teaches. Statement of Faith Under the authority of Jesus Christ and his word, we affirm: We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, author of all beauty, truth and goodness. We believe in Jesus Christ, His only son, who suffered and died on the cross, as an atoning sacrifice for sins, giving forgiveness and eternal life to all those who put their faith and trust in Him. We believe God raised Jesus from the dead and that His death and resurrection are the central events of history. We believe Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to God the Father but through Him. We believe in the third person of the Holy Trinity, the Holy Spirit, who baptizes, fills, instructs, counsels, comforts, convicts, purifies, exhorts, and strengthens all believers in accordance with God’s good will and purpose. We believe that Holy marriage is between a man and a woman, is ordained by God, and is the human echo of the divine relationship between Christ and His bride, the true Church.
