Bible Studies & Resources for Women
from Emily Wood
I know this is not as good as sitting together around a table looking at each other’s beautiful smiling faces; however, God has given us technology and podcasts and apps, and I’m pretty sure they are “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14), so let’s use them for all they are worth while we wait! Please look over the list below of online opportunities and study resources, and let me know what you think!
-- First Pres Online Summer Book Club/Bible Study on Jennie Allen’s latest book "Get Out of Your Head" – Led by Emily Wood using Zoom. If you are a member of this study group and need the Zoom info, click here for the Zoom link, Meeting ID: 288 013 0600, Password: firstpres. You can also subscribe to the Made for This podcast by Jennie Allen.
-- Another great Bible study resource from Jennie Allen is the IF:Gathering app you can download to your phone for free. Access the current daily Bible study here.
-- IF:TV is also a new resource you can find by clicking here.
-- Proverbs 31 Ministries, run by Lysa Terkeurst (click here), includes all kinds of resources, including the First Five Daily Bible Study app (click here). Both are highly recommended by Shauneen Hatfield and other women in our church.
-- The Bible Recap (click here) is recommended by Shelley Chaloupka. You can find The Bible Recap plan on the YouVersion Bible app many of us already have on our phones (click here). You can also subscribe to The Bible Recap podcast. This is a great way to get into the Word of God!
-- Study Gateway (click here) is recommended by Laurie Pinkston. It includes access to more than 2,500 video Bible studies from all our favorite teachers. You can get a free trial on this site to check it out. Please let me know if you are interested in this, and we can purchase a church account to share with all of you! Several of the studies have been mentioned in our women’s testimony videos:
Lezly Welch recommends: It's Not Supposed to be This Way by Lysa TerKeurst.
Shelley Chaloupka recommends: The Rock, The Road and The Rabbi by Kathie Lee Gifford
-- ChurchSource (click here) is another great resource. Shauneen Hatfield shared they are promoting two free online Bible studies coming up soon:
Starting May 24 is a study by Jennie Lusko (click here), and
Starting June 2 is a study by Candace Payne (click here).
-- Lifeway Women’s Online Bible Studies (click here). There are all kinds of resources here, including studies from Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer and more.

First Pres Welcomes our
New Director of Women's Ministry
I am honored and so excited to introduce myself as the new Director of Women’s Ministry at First Pres! My husband, Casey, and I have been members since 2005, were married in the church in 2006, and both of our girls, Marienne (8) and Noelle (6), were baptized here. My parents, Dan and Mary McWhorter, are members here too since moving to Amarillo a few years ago, and several of our other family members are also members here at First Pres! Our lives have been immeasurably enriched as we’ve experienced God’s grace and love to us through this church community over the past 14 years. One of my favorite memories is planning the Women’s Retreat in 2009 along with a wonderful and helpful group of friends. I was also privileged to serve on the Vision Path team in 2008, Howard’s senior pastor nominating committee in 2009-10, and as an Elder from 2014-2016. Casey and I were also blessed early in our marriage to get to facilitate a young couples home group on Wednesday nights from 2007-2016, and another joy for me is getting to occasionally host the 1105 service downstairs in a space my own husband renovated for our church!
I’m thankful for the many strong ties God has given us to First Pres, and I’m in awe and so grateful for how He led me into this new role as well. My hope is that I can get to know each of you women in our church better and spend more time with those of you I already know! I look forward to supporting the incredible work God is already doing here among our Women’s Ministry thanks to the leadership of Sherrie Lovato and others. My vision is to continue to grow Women’s Ministry and make it a more visible and accessible part of our church so that each woman knows she has a place here at First Pres; to strengthen the ties between our different generations of women through mentoring relationships so that our older women can guide our younger women with wisdom, peace, and perspective; and to take what we learn in our studies and small groups and put it into practice by reaching out and making a difference in our community. I’m looking forward to the future and all that God has planned for us here at First Pres, and I’m so thankful to get to be a part of it!
