NOT YOUR GRANDMOTHER'S PIPE ORGAN Home / About / Not Your Grandmother's Pipe Organ 1/2 ABOUT Becoming a Member Contact & News ECO Employment FAQs Mission Statement & Beliefs Our History Our People Our Pipe Organ What We're About First Pres Amarillo App WORSHIP | GROW | CONNECT | SERVE Generous Allison family Designated Gift Allows for World-Class Pipe Organ Our new organ, being built by Norman Goad of NEG Keyboard Services (a pipe organ service and installation company) will be a landmark instrument once finished. Norman is also FPC's Director of Music/Organist. The publicly visible part of the project - the console has been in the sanctuary for some time now, and it is a beauty! It has many custom features such as: Walnut/Maple drawknobs (stops) with inlaid name plates, matching walnut sharps (normally black plastic keys), and historic E.M. Skinner architectural designs along with architectural panels to match and enhance the beauty of our 1928 Gothic sanctuary. Although the console is very traditional in its appearance, it has many hidden high- tech functions that will be unique to this instrument such as audio plug-in and MIDI record/playback of any piece of music or full concert allowing automation of music when necessary. MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is the music industry standard for keyboard instruments, some modern stringed instruments, and drums, etc. The use of MIDI means that synthesizers can be played from this new console and the organ can also be played from a remote keyboard instrument. The console is merely the control center of the instrument (much like the captain controls the jumbo jet from the plane's cockpit.) The sounds all come from the parts of the instrument that are not visible from the sanctuary pews - the pipe chambers (rooms where the pipes reside). There are thousands of wiring connections in the chambers and Norman has also repaired valves that had been water damaged. The chambers not only contain pipes, but they also feature five percussion instruments: a zimbelstern two different types of harps and two sets of chimes. When the instrument is finished it will be the largest church organ in a line between Fort Worth and the California border with 4 manuals (keyboards), 158 drawknobs, 135 speaking stops (sounds) and approximately 4000 pipes in four chambers around the sanctuary. The frequency range of an organ such as this is 16 Hz (cycles per second) to frequencies well beyond the human range of hearing. The maximum range of human hearing is approximately 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. To see the Final Stop List, . click here Did You Know... “It is estimated that there are approximately 120,000 pipe organs in the world.” “The new pipe organ at First Pres will be the largest one between Ft Worth and Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Houston!” “There are only about 50 pipe organs in the world that are larger than the new one at First Pres!” “Bigger is definitely NOT always better, but an instrument of this size AND quality will compare favorably to the best instruments in the world.”

FAQS Home / About / FAQs Frequently asked questions What is the Mission Statement of First Pres? Our Mission is to discover and live the way of Christ in the expansive grace of God. What is the Vision Statement of First Pres? Where GRACE changes everything... What is ECO? First Pres recently joined ECO, a Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians whose mission is to build flourishing churches that make disciples of Jesus Christ. ECO is a Presbyterian denomination that was founded in 2010. By 2018, ECO churches seek to baptize more than they bury. We will pursue this goal by focusing on four priorities: Life up the centrality of the gospel Grow with an emerging generation of leaders Prioritize a wave of church innovation Create an atmosphere of relational accountability ECO What are your basic Presbyterian beliefs? God is one and exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ - God took human form in the person of Jesus Christ. He was fully God and fully human. The Trinity: God took human form in the person of Jesus Christ. He was fully God and fully human. Jesus Christ: A person by faith in Jesus Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross receives grace – the forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life. Justification by Faith: The Bible is God’s written Word to humankind – the “infallible rule of faith and practice.” Scripture: Our Living Heavenly Father is ultimately in control of world events and individual lives. He works all things out in accordance with His will. Sovereignty: We celebrate two sacraments: baptism and holy communion. Sacraments: We as Christians strive to praise and please God and enjoy an intimate relationship with Him. Worship: What kind of church is First Pres? We are a 'Confessional' church and proud members of ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians and the Fellowship of Presbyterians. We have adopted 13 creeds and confessions of the church, including the Apostles' Creed, that we believe accurately state what the Scripture teaches. Statement of Faith Under the authority of Jesus Christ and his word, we affirm: We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, author of all beauty, truth and goodness. We believe in Jesus Christ, His only son, who suffered and died on the cross, as an atoning sacrifice for sins, giving forgiveness and eternal life to all those who put their faith and trust in Him. We believe God raised Jesus from the dead and that His death and resurrection are the central events of history. We believe Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to God the Father but through Him. We believe in the third person of the Holy Trinity, the Holy Spirit, who baptizes, fills, instructs, counsels, comforts, convicts, purifies, exhorts, and strengthens all believers in accordance with God’s good will and purpose. We believe that Holy marriage is between a man and a woman, is ordained by God, and is the human echo of the divine relationship between Christ and His bride, the true Church. STUDIES AND GROUPS / Home Ministries / Studies and Groups Find Your Place... Worshipping together in a large group is powerful. However, we've found that real spiritual growth and lasting relationships are made in smaller studies and group settings. We have lots of groups to choose from. Wherever you are in life, there is a group or a study that will fit. We do better in community. As iron sharpens iron, the key relationships in our lives are meant to challenge, support, and strengthen us. While worship services are powerful, we know that spiritual development happens within smaller community. Find a Sunday school Find a Wednesday Night Group Interested in joining a Triad? STUDIES AND GROUPS Wednesday Nights Sunday School Bible Studies & Small Groups Triads OTHER INTERESTS Studies and Groups Worship Grow Connect Serve At First Pres, our goal is to discover and live the way of Christ int eh expansive grace of God. The way of Christ is the way of community. He ministered to people in community. He ministered to a group of 5,000 (Worship), feeding them with only five loaves of bread and two fish. He chose a group of 70, teaching them and then sending them out to spread the Gospel (Sunday school). We know that he chose His 12 disciples (Small Groups) and He even had a more intimate group of disciples: Peter, James, and John (Triad). We believe that following Christ's model of more intimate and in-depth Christ-centered community is how people mature in their walks with Him. is very similar to how Jesus ministered when He was on the earth. This Path of Discipleship
